The Portage Blaze women's soccer team is off to a 1-1 start in indoor regular season play, picking up its first victory of the campaign Tuesday.

Kathy Stewart and Sarah Mansell scored for Portage in a 2-0 win over the Gateway Celtic at the University of Manitoba Soccer Complex.

Tuesday's win was a nice way to rebound from Friday's Winnipeg Women's Soccer League season-opener, a 5-2 loss to Jabs.

With the Third Divison indoor season now in full swing, Blaze head coach Bryan Mintenko is happy to see his players regain their touch and chemistry through a couple of games thus far.

"It was a good win tonight," he said after Tuesday's game. "We had quite a few nice passing plays, and we just ran into a hot goaltender. We had a lot of the pressure and a lot of the shots, but she turned away a lot, and some just went wide, so it could have been a lot better.
