Thursday afternoon was exciting for MacGregor students. Both MacGregor Collegiate Institute and MacGregor Elementary School were evacuated due to a fire that broke out at the collegiate.
Flames were discovered in the boiler room at MCI, and the MacGregor volunteer fire department was on scene immediately, extinguishing the flames quickly.
"We responded to the call, and had the fire extinguished within seconds," reported MacGregor fire chief Chris Leckie. "There were seven or eight firefighters on scene."
The chief also reported that there were downed power lines down the street and Manitoba Hydro was on scene to take care of the issue. At this time, there is no definite cause known for the boiler room fire, but it is confirmed by the chief that there are no injuries at this time.
Students have been evacuated to the Normac Centre, where parents are being asked to pick them up. Anyone with questions or concerns can contact the Pine Creek School Division.
The Herald-Leader will continue to follow this story as it develops.
