SOCAN awards handed out

TORONTO — Pop-folk star Feist, Toronto prog-rock veterans Rush, and Vancouver pop-rock act Hedley were among the winners at this week's 20th annual SOCAN awards gala held at Roy Thomson Hall.
Feist's 1234 was among the pop-rock tunes that received the greatest number of performances on domestic radio in 2008 along with Hedley's For the Nights I Can't Remember, Kreesha Turner's Don't Call Me Baby and Finger Eleven's I'll Keep Your Memory Vague.
Finger Eleven's Paralyzer also picked up an International Song Award for achieving the highest international earnings last year and Kardinall Offishall's Dangerous featuring Akon won the urban music award for the greatest number of performances on domestic radio during 2008.
Rush received the International Achievement Award, while Stompin' Tom Connors was given the Lifetime Achievement Award and Rita MacNeil took home the National Achievement Award.
