The incredible sights and sounds of the entire Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra on stage in the William Glesby Centre on Dec. 16 are sure to create wonderful holiday memories for the entire family.
This year’s performance caters to the young and not-so-young with the orchestra performing the masterful score to the Christmas classic movie “The Snowman,” as it plays on the big screen. Ticket sales have been brisk for this very popular Christmas tradition, so don’t delay, call the Portage and District Arts Centre at 239-6029 to reserve your seats now. Concert tickets are $35 for adults, $30 for PDAC members, and $18 for students.
We are pleased to have Christianson Christianson Jones Law Corporation locally sponsoring this year’s Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra performance.

In the gallery
On display from Dec. 1-Jan. 16, in the gallery is photographic digital images by local artist John Nielsen entitled, “This Changing World.”
Nielsen grew up on a farm near Rathwell, moving to Portage la Prairie, where he has lived for the past 35 years. He has experimented with various artistic disciplines, including watercolour, coloured pencil, egg tempera, oil pastel and, more recently, photography. For the past five years, John has been immersed in photography, capturing images with his camera and enhancing them creatively with the computer.

John notes that, “My goal, always, is to create more profound imagery. I feel that I have succeeded in a picture if it has strong composition, attractive colours, interesting textures and an elusive element that makes it go beyond illustration and become art.”
Nielsen has had several solo shows, taken part in many group shows, and has won numerous awards. His artwork is in collections across Canada. You are invited to the opening of Nielsen’s exhibition on Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. in the gallery. We are pleased to have dentist Dr. Larry Cogar to sponsor this exhibition.
