A great New Year’s resolution would be to take time out for yourself to enjoy a weekend workshop with your friends! The Portage and District Arts Centre has several interesting workshops that are designed for beginner to more advanced artists.
Our first workshop of the new year is a Glass Mosaic workshop with Leta Owens on Feb. 5 and 6. Leta commented that, “After taking this class, you will want to mosaic everything in sight!”
We also have an Art Intensive Painting Workshop with the very inspiring Marcel Debreuil on Feb. 13 and 14.
A new workshop that the Arts Centre is excited to be offering is Life Drawing with a live Model on Feb. 27 with visual artist Derek Brueckner.
We have an Acrylic Workshop, using the prairies as subject matter, with David Cooper on March 6; an Oil Painting (Bob Ross-style) with Julie Lamoureux on March 20; a Prairie Glow Watercolour Workshop with Sylvia Russell on March 27; and Pysanka workshops (Ukrainian Easter Eggs) with instructor Helene Lucko for ages 6-12 with parent supervision and open to ages 12 and up.
Winnipeg Symphony delights an enthusiastic audience!
It was a full house at the William Glesby Theatre on Dec. 16 for the annual Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra Holiday Express Concert. Conductor Richard Lee’s humour and energy kept the audience entertained and engaged throughout the show. Santa Claus dropped by to accompany the orchestra on the drums and guest conductor Mayor Ken Brennan was awesome as he assisted Lee during the holiday classic “Sleigh Ride”.
After intermission, the heart-warming movie “The Snowman” played on the big screen as the orchestra performed the incredible score to the movie. The evening concluded with the enchanting voice of 15-year-old Andrea Macasaet leading the ever popular sing–a-long. Thanks so much to our sponsor Christianson Christianson Jones, the people who graciously donated the delicious dainties and our wonderful volunteers!
In the gallery
“This Changing World”, digital photography images by local artist John Nielsen, will be on display in the gallery until Jan. 16. Nielsen’s artwork is for sale so be sure to drop by gallery, as you might find that special piece that you are looking for. We are pleased to have Dr. Larry Cogar, of Brightside Dental Care, sponsor this exhibition.
