If you missed the Plumas news last week, that’s because there wasn’t any. I was storm stayed in Saskatchewan.
On Jan. 22, Mr. and Mrs. Jim McGregor, Mr. and Mrs. Wally Walker, Iris Fischer, Margaret Buschau and myself were picked up by bus at 8:15 a.m., with a stop in Neepawa where another eight dancers got on, then off to Manitou Beach, Sask., mineral spa and danceland. The Fugitives dance band had planned a weekend of dances, Friday and Saturday in danceland, where we, all 70 of us (there was another busload) were storm stayed. On the morning of Jan. 24, the busses were to leave at 9 a.m. for Kipling, Sask., for a dance at 2 p.m., but highways were closed. So, by 1 p.m., we were on the road arriving there at 5 p.m. Everyone had been dancing to tapes. By 6 p.m., the band was all set up and played until 9:30 p.m.. By then hotel rooms were booked and we stayed there until the afternoon of Jan. 25, when the highways were opened, getting back here at 7:30 p.m. that evening. Everyone had a great time and already want to do it again. Jan. 26 was spent digging out!
The Plumas seniors held their monthly meeting on Jan. 27. Reports were heard from all committee. President Ken Oswald reported that our membership is now up to 62 members. A new big screen TV and Wii games have been put in and a curling table is coming from the grant we received.
On Feb. 10, we will have our annual tea and bake sale, silent auction and grocery hamper for the raffle. Each member is asked to donate one item for the hamper. The first shuffleboard tournament was finished, with Lydia Wutke and John Keysers taking the 1st event and Len Tyerman and Margaret Keysers the 2nd.
Approximately 30 members enjoyed the potluck supper on Jan. 31. Whist winners were: High; Marlene Smith and Ray Walker; Low: Irene Flatt and Lloyd Single.
Pastor Klein had his last service in Zion Lutheran Church on Jan. 31. A social time was held following the service. A van was to come on Feb. 1 to take their belongings to British Columbia, and his first service there will be on this Sunday.
Beginning Sunday, the church service at Zion Lutheran Church will be Sundays at 7 p.m. Pastor Ward Yonkers from Winnipeg will be the vacancy pastor until a permanent pastor arrives.
Friends of Sigrun Post will be pleased to hear she is recovering nicely in Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre following surgery.
We welcome Andy and Eya who are the new owners of the Plumas Cafe. The cafe was closed for a week and reopened on Feb. 3.
Howard Madill of Victoria, B.C., is spending a week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Madill.
